Deactivate Facebook Account Permanently
You can deactivate an account and afterwards later reactivate it. While it's deactivated, people can't see your timeline or search for you, though some info, such as messages you sent out, may still show up.
If you erase your account, it's gone forever and can not be reactivated. Facebook says that they "hold-up removal a couple of days after it's asked for" which a deletion request is terminated if you log back into your account throughout that period. They better state that it can take up to 90 days to erase data saved in back-up systems.
